A computer for all the rich Chinese farmers
From ChinaTechNews.com, a story that would make IBM proud:
The Beijing Science and Technology Commission has unveiled the "Chang Feng" PC, a computer designed for farmers and users in rural areas. ...All the software in the computer is designed to meet the specific demands of the rural areas. For example, farmers can search for information on how to grow crops and they can also locate agricultural experts to help them.
There are over a hundred games in the computer for farmers to play during their leisure time.
The computer is priced below RMB 3,000.
Hmmmm. According to China's own government statistics, the average rural Chinese household made RMB 967 during the first quarter of 2005. And Chinese farmers with leisure time? Must be talking about these guys.


Ah, you think they are doing the farmers a favor by giving them computers that make it easier to look up crop prices, but what the farmers really want to do is...
