Fudan to students: You're still screwed if you screw

sexbanchineseuniversity.jpgJust not as much. Shanghai's Fudan University inched just a little bit closer to becoming the Cal State-Chico of China recently, as school officials will no longer immediately expel unmarried students who have sex, the Shanghai Daily reports:

Students will still be punished if they are caught between the sheets with a lover, however. ...

Students caught having sex, whether on campus or off, will receive a warning and a bad report on their personal record. Students can be expelled after two warnings.

The new rule comes in response to the Ministry of Education's decision to end a ban on students getting married.

Earlier this month, Chongqing Normal University also changed its policy on sex, but took theirs in a different direction. This notice was posted in classrooms: "The discovery of escort girls, mistresses, gigolos, or anyone caught having a one-night love affair will result in expulsion."

Fudan student Shen Yaxin said the strict sex rules are all for show. It's impossible for them to be enforced. "No one would let the secret out if they have sex," Shen said. "How could the school know if they have no evidence?"

Reportedly a student at Shanghai University -- Shanghaiist's former employer -- was expelled last semester after allowing his girlfriend to spend the night in his dorm room. He was sick, the story goes, and she was taking care of him. It was unclear from the story whether the girlfriend was wearing a nurse's uniform.
