We wonder if there will be major brawls between basketball and soccer fans this week in Shanghai. We sure hope so! Because this week as soccer is being played inside Shanghai Stadium, basketball — or, at least, some sexed-up replication of the sport — will be played outside. Something called the NBA Jam Van starts its three-month, 10-city tour of China in Shanghai this week. Billed as “the NBA’s premiere interactive touring program” (there are others?), the NBA Jam Van will annoy soccer fans July 28-31, from 11 am to 7 pm daily. Here’s exactly what the NBA PR people want Shanghaiist to tell you about it:
The China edition of the NBA Jam Van is a tailor-made, 16-meter truck which transforms into 600 square meters of free basketball activities allowing fans of all ages the opportunity to play like the pros. In addition to jamming slam dunks and sinking three-pointers on two basketball areas with three different size baskets, fans can participate in a wide array of interactive off-court activities, including video games, player measure-up areas and other displays, and a giant video wall featuring the NBA action and highlights. Participants can also take advantage of product samples and demonstrations from the Jam Van’s official partners and suppliers.
Shanghaiist just got an email today from the NBA, saying that the offical opening ceremony of the NBA Jam Van in Shanghai will be July 28 at 3 pm. And there’s going to be a special guest!
Do you want to know who it is?
Are you ready?!?
