- Expected to be the worst storm to hit Shanghai in eight years.
- Residents of Shanghai were warned to stay home Saturday and to take precautions to prevent injuries from blowing debris.
- Shanghai reported only minor damage, with a few street and building signs knocked down and one downtown road tunnel flooded.
- The storm has claimed one life, when a dormitory at a construction site collapsed under strong winds.
- Matsa is named after a Laotian fish.
- Some winds in Shanghai were estimated at 100-kilometers-an-hour.
- 43,600 residents were evacuated in Jinshan, Nanhui, Fengxian and Baoshan districts, Pudong New Area and on Chongming Island, the largest such relocation in the city's history.
- Hongqiao International Airport shut down all flights Friday night. Most departing international flights from Pudong International Airport were grounded and incoming flights diverted elsewhere. Reports say both airports remain closed.
- Boats were ordered to port as winds near the mouth of the Yangtze were clocked at 133 kph.
- Matsa landed in Zhejiang Province at 3:40 am and was centered about 60 kilometers north- northeast of Wenzhou at 8 am.
- 1.24 million residents on China's east coast have been evacuated, 510,000 in Zhejiang.
