UPDATE: Chinese government: Sister Hibiscus “must be disappeared”!Some of this is old news, but China Radio International, on its “Chinastic” web page, features several of China’s current “online celebrities.” These mini profiles include many photos, external links and sometimes audio and video interviews (sadly, none of the AV features worked for Shanghaiist, likely because we use Apple’s Safari web browser). Following are intoductions to the blogger celebs, as penned by China Radio International:
Furong Jiejie or Hibiscus Older Sister (pictured): “If you don’t know who Furong Jiejie is, you’re absolutely ‘out’. Beginning early this year on the Qinghua and Beijing University BBS, Furong Jiejie began to upload her photos.”
Muzi Mei: “Muzi Mei rose to a brief far-reaching notoriety in the last few months of 2003. She kept a blog where she described sexual encounters with various men, including a well-known rock musician.”
Brother Furong: “Furong Jiejie has opened the floodgates for all China’s hilarious dancers to make a name for themselves, and leading the pack is Jimmy Pei, who’s been dubbed ‘Brother Furong.'”
Zhu Ying Qing Tong: “Zhu Ying Qing Tong, a famous blogger, said she was a professor in Guangzhou forced to resign from her job after publishing bold works on sex and nude pictures of herself on her blog.”
Hou She Boys: “Hou She Boys, Huang Yixin and Wei Wei, two funny, lovely and cute boys famous for their lip-sync show, are blooming on the net.”
Pobaby or Xiao Po Hai: “Born in 2002, Pobaby and his girlfriend Xiao Ya have become two famous cartoon characters, especially welcomed by China’s young netizens.”
