I took some photos last year of a couple of taxi drivers fighting. They were basically just pushing and choking each other, and the police arrived before it came to blows. Photos: 1, 2, 3.

Great article.

But how can you say "Road rage as a social phenomenon is seemingly absent"?

How long have you been in Shanghai? Have you left the house yet?

There is a huge road rage problem here. I reckon on seeing at least one driver completely lose it on a daily basis. I used to believe that it was all big arguments and no more, but from my experience physical violence is on the rise too, I've seen at least 5 incidents of drivers laying into each other. One particulary nasty incident of a taxi driver beating the living shit out of scooter rider and trashing his bike really sticks in the memory.

Just thank god that China falls on the right side of the fence when it comes to gun ownership restrictions (although give it time and that I'm sure we'll have a few fatal shootings, especially with the police and army just about the worst offenders when it comes to ignoring traffic laws).
