What was that NWA song again? "Love Tha Police"? "Truck Tha Police"? "Funk Tha Police"? Well, whatever it was, that song came to mind when Shanghaiist learned that every hipster's favorite Shanghai bar -- Tang Hui Pub -- was being forced to shut its doors. "We're in a quiet neighborhood, and the police are always coming in," explained bar owner Zooma, who is also the soulful and spasmodic frontman for the band Xingfu 13, which kicked ass last Friday at the Shanghaiist launch party. The bar, located on tiny Xingfu Lu in Changning District, will close sometime in November.
But all is not lost. Zooma said Tang Hui will reopen at a new address closer to the heart of the city, also in November. He did not disclose the exact location, but said it's an old house on Changle Lu near Shaanxi Lu that is currently occupied by a restaurant. Most importantly, Zooma said the new space is double the size of the current Tang Hui. This is welcome news. The tiny pub had become increasingly popular in recent months because of its laid back atmosphere (hard to find in Shanghai) and skilled, if often repetitive, live music acts (even harder to find in Shanghai). Tang Hui gets packed on weekends and uncomfortably crowded, hot and smoky. Hopefully, the new locale will remedy all that. Let's just hope their selection of 1950s rock-n-roll CDs gets lost in the move.
Shanghaiist warns readers that the new location of Tang Hui could very well change again, considering Zooma told us Friday night the new spot would be on Taikang Lu near Sinan Lu. Frankly, we would have preferred that one since it would have been walking distance from our apartment.

Don't be such a pussy! Crowded, hot & smokey is the correct atmosphere for a rock club. If only Tang Hui's staff could pour a fuckin drink, that'd be something...
I can deal with crowded and hot. It's the smoky that gets to me. My eyes, mostly.
Pussy.
Classy.
Those 1950s CDs rule!
