Babies for sale on eBay China

With the large number of unwanted babies in China and the increasing popularity of the internet, we assume this was just a matter of time. But come on, people. This is sick. They even said they'd sell you a boy, which makes Shanghaiist think it must be a hoax. Shanghai police are investigating the case:

The starting bid for a baby was 1 yuan, like most items sold on eBay. If a bidder agreed to pay 28,000 yuan (US$3,457) for a boy or 13,000 yuan for a girl, the person would win the auction immediately.

The seller boasted the goal of the sale was to "bring happiness to numerous barren couples across the country."

Shanghai Morning Post yesterday quoted an eBay user surnamed Mao as saying that he found the baby-selling offer in the car accessories category on Tuesday.

Fifty people had visited the page before it was shut down. No one placed a bid.
