Rockabilly Lullaby

lairs_at_glamour.jpgShanghaiist made our semi-annual trek to M on the Bund's Glamour Bar last night for the second of three shows by Australian rockabilly band the Lairs. When we arrived, the expense account set were still finishing dinner and the band had started into a downtempo number barely loud enough to be heard over the diners' conversation. Frontman Todd Johnson warned us that they were just warming up and would "explode at the finish," but as the evening wore on so did the lifeless covers, and we were finding it difficult to stay awake long enough to hear him make good on his promise.

By removing both the "rock" and the "'billy" from rockabilly, the Lairs ended up putting on a show so boring we actually considered looking for a Filipino cover band to liven up the evening.

More photos from the show can be seen on Flickr.
