If you don't already have plans for some Halloween party somewhere in Shanghai tonight, Shanghaiist suggests you head on over to Tang Hui Pub. In fact, just bring that costume along and go to Tang Hui anyway. This well-loved, hard-rocking bar is having its goodbye party tonight. We mean goodbye as in see you later, at a different, larger and more central location. Shanghaiist also reported back in September on some of the other reasons behind the move.
According to the emailed invitation, Tang Hui will be moving from its current location on Xingfu Lu in Changning District on Monday, October 31, and plans to reopen at its new location on December 1 with an opening party to be held soon.
Although the invitation did not include details on Tang Hui's new location, Shanghaiist has been told we can expect to find Tang Hui at its new digs on 333 Changle Lu near Xiangyang Lu (长乐路333号, 近襄阳北路), in the concession-era house where Secret Garden (藏乐坊) Cantonese restaurant was located.
Tang Hui's goodbye party happens tonight, October 29, at 13 Xingfu Lu, by Fahuazhen Lu (幸福路13号, 近法花镇路). Tel: 6281 5646.

Is there any way in the world to stop great things becoming average? Without wishing to assume that the 'quality' of tang hui bar will go down, the best thing they had going for them was the small size, the out-of-the-way location and the fact that you could never find a seat.
A new place is not going to be tang hui. It is going to be a new place where more people go. The new 'place to go' is never a good place to go, in my experience.
Bob Marley at Tang Hui
Guess we won't see you at the new TH. Shanghai's not the place for sentamentalism... Besides, maybe they'll learn to pour a proper fuckin drink!
In my experience, the bartenders at Tanghui are perfectly capable of pouring proper drinks -- a more likely problem is that you're not ordering a proper drink. If you want anything more than one type of liquor with one type of mixer (and/or ice) you're not asking for a drink, you're asking for a cocktail. Maybe you'd be happier at some place like Bar Rouge.
In my experience, both the drinks and the live music are pretty crappy at Tanghui
Whiskey, Ice, Glass. When you drink it like I do, Brad, you know a proper drink. (Which, despite the place crawling with French losers, Bar Rouge actually does well) Only way to get one at TH was to buy a bottle which was a reasonable option since they didn't gouge you. Hope that trend carries through to the new loc.
Drinks at Tanghui are fine, but does anyone know if there is a convenient store near the new place? heh...

I saw Zhuma last Thursday at the punk show, and he said the new Tanghui won't be open til the end of the year at the earliest. Not sure if it'll still be on Changle Rd or not.
