I saw Zhuma last Thursday at the punk show, and he said the new Tanghui won't be open til the end of the year at the earliest. Not sure if it'll still be on Changle Rd or not.

Whiskey, Ice, Glass. When you drink it like I do, Brad, you know a proper drink. (Which, despite the place crawling with French losers, Bar Rouge actually does well) Only way to get one at TH was to buy a bottle which was a reasonable option since they didn't gouge you. Hope that trend carries through to the new loc.

In my experience, both the drinks and the live music are pretty crappy at Tanghui

In my experience, the bartenders at Tanghui are perfectly capable of pouring proper drinks -- a more likely problem is that you're not ordering a proper drink. If you want anything more than one type of liquor with one type of mixer (and/or ice) you're not asking for a drink, you're asking for a cocktail. Maybe you'd be happier at some place like Bar Rouge.

Is there any way in the world to stop great things becoming average? Without wishing to assume that the 'quality' of tang hui bar will go down, the best thing they had going for them was the small size, the out-of-the-way location and the fact that you could never find a seat. A new place is not going to be tang hui. It is going to be a new place where more people go. The new 'place to go' is never a good place to go, in my experience.
