Get your 'Ljubicic' and 'Davydenko' banners ready

shanghaiqizhongstadium.gifThe field is finally set for the Tennis Masters Cup, which comes to Shanghai's brand-spankin'-new Qi Zhong Stadium (pictured) November 13-20. Competing in "the final showdown" are some of the biggest names in men's tennis. (Also competing are guys named Ivan Ljubicic, Guillermo Coria and Nikolay Davydenko.) Players headed to Shanghai you may have heard of are Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick, Lleyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi.

Tickets for the event range from $10 to $580. It appears that online sales stopped on Oct. 17 for some reason. Now, you are supposed to call 86-21 6384 6601 for tickets. The tournament website also lists two locations for buying tickets: Shanghai Times Square, first floor, 93 Huaihai Zhong Lu, Tel: 86-21 6391-8395, and Shanghai Pudong International Tennis Center, 9 Yushan Lu (inside Yuanshen Stadium). Another big scoop by Shanghaiist-- FYI Masters Cup tickets were sold out MONTHS ago

Thanks for your comment, Sergio. This Nov. 4 story says the following: "All the group tickets, as well as tickets to semi-finals and finals have been sold out." That leads me to beleive that tickets to earlier rounds are still available. Do you have a link that says differently? Also, the field for the tournament wasn't set until yesterday. So, while that's not a "big scoop," it is currrent news.

Dan, thanks for your response. I'd caution against sourcing links from Xinhua News-- it is not exactly the paper of record. The tickets which weren't already earmarked for corporate sponsors and gov't authorities were sold out to the public months ago. You can confirm this by calling the event organizers or the ticket hotline. And not to belabor the point, but given the way the Masters Series is set up, other than a few alternates and wildcards, the tournament berths are known well in advance. Keep up the good reporting; I appreciate what Shanghaiist is trying to accomplish

Would you take off my home number from your blog and stop making trouble, please!

Which number? We got the phone numbers directly from the official tournament website. Maybe you should talk to them.

Ok, I already talked to them. But I don't think they were even paying attention to me. Could you just do me a favor, take it off from here at least please? It's the one says Pudong International. Thank you.

Done. Sorry about any trouble it caused.
