To be clear, Lisa Movius hates this website

lisamovius.gifIf you came to Shanghaiist based solely on Lisa Movius' recommendation found on page 8 of the November 4, 2005 edition of SH magazine, STOP READING NOW. Lisa would want you to. Lisa's plug for this website was a misquote, and she is very embarrassed by it.

The piece in question was SH's cover story, titled both "Shanghai's Supersites: The city at a click" and "Best of the Web." (You can read the story, minus Lisa's pull quote, here ... SH was formerly known as 8 Days.) Here is what the magazine quoted Lisa as saying: "I like Shanghaiist, and Yuyintang is a great site too. Wall-shop.com is a poster store on Changle Lu with its own website where you can place orders. I'd like to see more of that."

Here is the correction Lisa posted on her website:

Movius.us featured, Lisa misquoted in 8 Days

"The 11/4/05 edition of the local rag 8 Days interviewed me for web recommendations. I plugged the concert organizers Yuyintang and the rock music school and bar Guaer, called SUS2 in English. They quoted me as praising, not SUS2, but some expat website I'd never even visited before called Shanghaiist. It turns out to be one of those oblivious expat blogs I find so pointless. It apparently is one of the parties responsible for turning Tanghui from a cool dive into Windows with more expensive beer by bringing all the clueless laowai over, driving away all the artists and musicians who used to go there. So I am rather embarrassed to be on the record as endorsing it. I never would. The article also lists [www.movius.us] as a blog, which it is not. It has a blog, and I have long been meaning to post some not-for-publication snark, but never have the time. To be fair, That's Shanghai mislabeled it a blog first. Nothing against it, some people are into stuff like blogging, I'm not."

Here is a screen shot of Movius.us that includes Lisa's correction.
