I own a Segway in Shanghai, but it wasn't me that was seen near Starbucks. I used it mainly for trade shows and for riding around our apartment complex.

Segways in Shanghai would be great, I have ridden them in San Francisco and think they would go down a treat in Shanghai, however me thinks the roads and traffic conditions are not suitable in most parts. Maybe it could work in certain parts of French Concession to offer tours similar to what they do in San Francisco.

There used to be a couple of French expat kids that would ride Segways from East Lake Villas to the French School in Beijing, that is the only time I'd ever seen them in China before. China makes bootleg Honda CR-Vs, http://www.autoblog.com/entry/6325545909932977/, a fake Segaway is totally possible. It's amazing how quickly a country developes when they completely ignore international IP laws.
