Welcome to China’s (latest) new Cultural Revolution. The legendary Shaolin Temple will host a new Chinese reality show featuring the world’s top Kung Fu masters.
In the first stage, the show’s producers will conduct a worldwide search for the top 108 Kung Fu masters. After weeks of international and domestic competition, 23 lucky contestants will converge on China’s Shaolin Temple for the finals.
Though we’re disappointed to hear the Shaolin monks are banned from participating, they have been invited to judge the competition. But they ain’t the only judges.
“The organizer will also invite women judges to comment on the candidates’ attractions to women, which is an important factor for the qualification results … The TV series will be 40 episodes long. Winners will also be invited to play leading roles in a Hollywood movie.”
For those interested in competing, Shanghaiist suggests you begin training soon. The preliminary round kicks off in mid-March. David Carradine is an early favorite.
If it’s anything like the America’s Next Top Model, it should make excellent television. We’ll be watching.
