If Shanghaiist had a nickel for every jogger we have seen along the streets of Shanghai over the past three years, we'd have, oh, about a quarter. There is a reason for this -- jogging along the streets of Shanghai will get you killed. And the Shanghai Police don't try to deny this. At 4:50 am on October 3, a jogger named Peng was hit from behind by a taxi on Wenxi Lu. And on October 20, a cargo truck ran head on into a jogger named Chen near the intersection of Gonghe Xin Lu and Zhonghua Xin Lu. What is the city's police doing to stop this run of deaths? Telling Shanghai residents not to jog ... on the streets, at least.
Police said managers of old residential complexes should consider renovations to provide space for regular exercisers. Those who live in old complexes should walk to a nearby park to do exercises instead of jogging along the street, police warned.
Officers are also telling drivers to pay extra attention early in the morning to avoid hitting runners.
They said that is especially important for drivers with little experience.
"Vision is poorer in the early hours of the day. For inexperienced drivers, it would be more difficult to respond quickly when they suddenly come across a runner," one officer said.
Both of the dead joggers were hit by inexperienced drivers.
And if the drivers don't kill you, Shanghai's air probably will.

Fourteen ways to die in Shanghai

I'm fairly sure that riding a bicycle in Shanghai is a little more dangerous.
But as for jogging, at least there's a couple of other options besides cr#ppy treadmills in gyms for the avid runner in Shanghai.
Anyone know of any others?
Treadmills could be the way. Could I ask you guys where in Shanghai I can purchase a decent treadmill? Going to visit this Great City in 2 weeks. Thanks in advance.
