We're sure her London-based publisher is happy to hear this. Zhou Wei Hui, author of banned-by-Beijing Shanghai Baby, admits that she self-censored her latest book Marrying Buddha (Shanghaiist review) because the Chinese government let her back in the country.
Zhou, whose new book wasn't banned by Beijing, said she enjoys returning to China and wouldn't be happy living abroad full time."I was so happy that (the government) had allowed me to return that I deleted some parts of the book myself," she was quoted as saying. "I took out some sexual parts and some things about Chinese male authors who get monthly allowances from the government."
But the government canceled her book tour, Zhou was quoted as saying. "They said, 'We don't want you to be so obvious,' so I said, 'OK,' because I was just glad to have the book published in China", reported AP.

Book Review: Shanghai Baby grows up (a little)

It was widely publicised in China that Wei Hui had plagiarized Mian Mian’s book, “Candy” for her “Shanghai Baby”.
Has anyone realised that Wei Hui even also plagiarized the Chinese translated name of a Taiwan woman’s book character for her “Muju” in this new book “Marrying Buddha”, as well as ideas and material from that woman’s book ?
“Muju” was the translated Chinese name of a 23-year-old tall slim beautiful Indian young man, “Muj” in that Taiwan woman’s book, “Passion of Tower Bridge” of which the story was based in London and other locations in Europe.
That Taiwan woman only found out about this plagiarism one and a half months ago by accident. She has been furiously protesting to Wei Hui’s publishers in HK and London, as well as to the Mainland Chinese authorities who still keep her original book samples for already 2 and a half years. The Taiwan woman has been also furiously discussing with her worldwide online contacts about what to do about this horrible plagiarism. The woman is horrified also because “Marrying Buddha” was so badly written and is such a cheap nouveau-riche pornographic trash.
Both Chinese (My Zen) and English versions of “Marrying Buddha” are huge piles of garbage !
