Zhang Ziyi has sex with Japanese men!

memoirsofageisha.jpgWell, she does in the movies at least. And that may be why we will have to wait a little while to see Miss Zhang and fellow Zhang-Yimou-triumph Gong Li play Japanese women in Memoirs of a Geisha here in Shanghai. The film, directed by Chicago's Rob Marshall, is set to be released as a PG-13 film in the United States in December, just in time for an Oscar push. But the movie's China release date could be pushed back from January 9 to February 10, so Chinese men with scissors have time to cut out a sex scene. One month! That must be one hell of a sex scene.

The movie, oddly, is one topic that old foes China and Japan are agreeing upon: Neither nation particularly likes it. And they can say that without even watching the movie. Many Japanese aren't happy that none of the three lead female characters, all Japanese, is played by Japanese actors. And many Chinese are pissed off for, well, pretty much the same reason -- how could one of their own "flat-chested beauties" have simulated on-screen sex with a Japanese man?!? "She deserves to be chopped into a thousand bits," fumed one internet poster. Another Chinese netizen added, "Zhang is a shameless prostitute. She should be deprived of Chinese citizenship."

Ah, Chinese online forums and chat rooms -- where every self-respecting journalist goes for some truly objective quotes.

Japanese actresses refused to play any roles as they were sick of the usual Hollywood fictional aspect that paints them as whores and destroys the truth of the geisha.

Chinese boys are very angry and it seems it's another woman who is interested in 'rich foreigners' rather than them. Such is life.

I won't see the film because the whole issue around it has become so tedious and the film may just be the same if it just makes me think "but that's just not true" for an hour and a half. I can do that all day watching CCTV 9.

Btw who said she 'simulated' ? :-)

Sensible issue, just how low you can get? I just go ahead and dl the movie somewhere, get some popcorn and lower my IQ to below 0 and watch the thing.

I probably won't see it because the book was for shit, and yes the whole controversy is annoying. At the same time, there's plenty old-school Japanese books that mention sex with Geishas. "Tales of an Amorous Man" was one after the other. Hollywood isn't the place to go for an accurate history, but Japanese sentiment is an even less accurate source. Maybe "Geisha revisionism" can have a seperate sub-protest the next time China gets upset about Japan.

It's just a movie people.... & she's an actress! I'm Chinese-Australian and most of my friends (same heritage, or Korean) read the book in high school and really enjoyed it and are planning on seeing the movie when it comes out here.

It's just entertainment OK. And it's Hollywood. Even the book is written by an American MAN. I mean it'll be weird a little because she's got this thick Chinese accent which is going to make it hard to suspend disbelief and try to pretend she's Japanese but at the end of the day people are going to walk out of the cinema and forget about the movie. Yeah the directors are pretty silly and most Asians are a bit miffed over the casting but then again they realize its just commerical Hollywood entertainment so what the hell.

I'm sick of seeing Zhang Ziyi bagged out. I mean if you have to be politically correct all the time, then what about Gong Li and Michelle Yeoh?!

Please think this way. They are just actresses. How could they refuse their job? Some as everyone, they need to make money and pay the bills too. You don't have to see the movie if you don't like. The money is in your pocket. Nobody can force you to see it.

"it'S JUST a movie.It's just entertainment. And it's Hollywood."

So? Does that mean public has to accept watching crap just for their enjoyement? Just because they are easy target for hollywood market people...
Film should be an art, something enjoyable and refreshing without the need to become stupid for 1 and 1/2 hour.
Don't surrender, don't let them earn bunch of money with terrible stuff.
Keep going to watch those movies and the perpetual movement of shit making is far to an end.
