This week's chemical spill happens in Pudong

A traffic accident on Jiangdong Lu in Pudong sent 10 tons of acid into a nearby creek, the Shanghai Daily reports, citing the original story in the Chinese-language Dong Fang Zao Bao. It sounds as though a truck rear-ended a tanker after the tanker made a sudden stop. The report says the creek -- 1,000 square meters of which was polluted -- was not a source of drinking water. It went on to say that the polluted water will flow into Gaosangang River, but tells us nothing about the Gaosangang. Authorities say they have "controlled the pollution" and warned local residents not to eat fish from the creek.
