- If you're Chinese, 16 years old and wondering which line of work will guarantee you a job -- the answer is a nurse. The male nurses at a recent job fair in Shanghai had four or five offers each, whilst students of other majors found it tough to get one. You'll also be doing an excellent thing, and you'll genuinely help people. Also, you can avoid the risk of being another one of the million male students who want to be "a businessman", therefore saving yourself from a lifetime of "profit margins", plastic briefcases, mobile-phone-holders on your belt, and the contempt of those around you.
- The Fudan Cat Torturer Zhang Liangliang has received further help to get to the bottom of why he is
such a sick freak who tortured and killed catsa disturbed individual. They mentioned that Zhang is unsociable and has few friends, and that he is "alone most of the time". One counselor said Zhang was "well-educated" and "rational" during one counseling session, commenting, "I saw no sign of sadism at all in him." - There was a "symposium" held to educate Chinese women on pregnancy and reproduction in general. The Ministry of Health is apparently more than a little perturbed that about 4 to 5 percent of newborns in China have inborn deficiencies, which means there are 800,000 to 1 million children born with various deformations every year. The article states that rural mothers need the most education, but does not state why they think this (and if so why hold it in Shanghai?). One truth that the health experts mentioned was that if rural women had better access to medical exams during pregnancy, they would be able to spot any problems early on. The article includes this reasonably bizarre quote: "Dr. Wang Yifei of Jiao Tong University's school of medicine said more than half of the mentally retarded children in the country were born with a low intelligence." Forgive us if we're being thick, but -- mentally retarded children with high intelligence?

Week Around the Ists

Damn, the news about that sick bastard made me lose my sleep...
Sorry Alessandro, I feel the same.
When I first read about it I wished I hadn't read the details. I can bear hearing about all of humanity's mishaps, but cats just don't deserve it.
Maybe I should say that the cat in the pic is not being forced into the box. She is my cat back home which is slightly broad in the beam.
NICK, YOUR CAT IS SO SWEET. SHE LOOKS LIKE SHE GETS LOVE AND ALOT OF FOOD. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.
SHE'S VERY PRETTY.
