Baidu's top keyword searches for 2005

supervoicegirlsgrroupshot.jpgPopular Chinese internet search engine Baidu.com recently announced the 10 most popular search queries for 2005, reports the Star Daily (via the Shanghai Daily China news blog). Here they are, in order of popularity (we think):

  1. MP3
  2. 超级女声 (TV sensation Super Voice Girls)
  3. 童话 ("Fairy Tale," a pop song by Malaysian singer Guang Liang)
  4. QQ (instant messaging software)
  5. 李宇春 (Li Yuchun, the winner of Super Voice Girls)
  6. 大长今 (Korean TV series Dae Jang Geum or Jewel in the Palace)
  7. 神话 (Jackie Chan's move The Myth, also a band)
  8. 保先 ("keep the Party in the vanguard")
  9. 诛仙 (Kill the God, a famous internet novel)
  10. 劲乐团 (o2jam, an online music game)

Shenzhou VI (神六) was the top news query, bird flu (禽流感) the top "incident," Ba Jin (巴金) the top author, and Liu Xiang (刘翔) was the most searched athlete.

And now all those searches will lead to Shanghaiist. Ha!
