UPDATED: Big fire at or near Xiangyang Market?

fireinshanghai.jpgShanghaiist has heard from two pretty reliable sources that a "big fire" is causing a "cloud of smoke" to rise from the area near Xiangyang Market. Can any Shanghaiist readers confirm this or add more details? Email photos to info(at)shanghaiist.com.

UPDATE: Marc van der Chijs reports:

The fire was in Huaihai Plaza, the new skyscraper next to Xiangyang Market. See my Flickr pictures: www.flickr.com/photos/chijs

It was actually more smoke than fire, and in 15 minutes the fire brigade managed to have even the smoke under control. Watching the crowd was more fun than watching the fire!

Thanks Marc!

The fire was in the new building next to Xiangyang market, I happened to walk by there when it happened. I took some pictures and put them on my flickr account: www.flickr.com/photos/chijs

The fire was from the A/C unit on the roof of the lower part of the building. I work in high up in he K Wah building across the street. It was quite a sight to be seen, but did nothing more than create alot of billowing black smoke. Anything that wasn't steel on that A/C unit evaporated.
