This Valentine's Day, go (for) broke!

Shanghaiist knows that most of you are thanking your lucky stars that you got over the New Year's hangover and are not yet ready to think about the emotional hangover that awaits you on Valentine's Day IF you put together anything less than a perfect Valentine's Day for that special someone. Well, we pride ourselves on being your eyes and ears here in the city, and we've just gotten wind of a Valentine Day's package that is sure to sweep that sig other off their feet and into your bed arms.

We're talking a cruise on luxury yacht on the river AND two nights at the Portman to give you ample time to do what people do after they do a little dance. But you want to know more details about what kind of treatment you're getting at the Portman right? Let us warn you first that this package is for people who like roses. Because the limo that comes to pick up comes with roses and champagne. When you get to the yacht, they literally cue the violins -- a trio of musicians provides the soundtrack to your night of love. The five course (rose-inspired) dinner is courtesy of a private chef from Palladio. You get a bottle of Dom Perignon champagne. Then you brace for the onslaught of roses: rose inspired gifts, rose petals strewn on your presidential suite bed, a specially prepared rose petal bath (includes bathrobes with your names sewn on), and of course, rose tea, which we personally think would be a great first drink for the morning after a rapturous night. (Surely better than the McDonald's coffee we're accustomed to.) Finally, the limo sends you off and you return, bittersweetly, to your regular life as taxi driver or Lawson's clerk.

But whenever you think back to those two nights, you feel light and weightless, which in some way, you are, because unless you used your credit card, you're going to find yourself 188,888 RMB in cash lighter than before. Assuming 48 hours of service, this comes out to about 3,935 RMB per hour. Frankly, you'd think that someone with that kind of money would also have the brains to come up with something slightly more original or tasteful, but hey ... what do we know? Shanghaiist still thinks McDonald's coffee is a great way to start a morning.
