Everyone knows that bloggers are a nutty group and that Chinese bloggers are no exception. Shanghaiist fears the wild world that is the Chinese blogosphere if only because we don't want our heads to explode. But we've been feeling a bit more daring recently, and after cautiously dipping a toe in the water, we've come to conclusion that there's some strange stuff out there that you need to know about.
For example, the Super Voice Girl that you all forgot about -- Feng Jiamei, who although not one of the finalists nevertheless has her legion of diehard fans. Well, turns out that she's gone out and done something naughty and consequently alienated some of her fans. The once "girl next door" type songstress took a bunch of sexy photos wrapped only in a towel, while reclining on a bed with a "come hither" expression on her face. If you think that's absolutely audacious, you ain't see nothing yet. This site is about one of the most ridiculous things we've ever seen on the web. There's like lots of little "tiles" on the website, and each one links to a company or some other entity. Each tile is a mini-ad of sorts, and since each one is miniscule, the point is for everyone to stake out their little piece of pixel territory and eventually fill up the whole page. Of course, all of this pales in comparison to these pictures of a Russian woman with humongous breasts. These are just some of the blog sites that are getting the most traffic. These do not in any way reflect the fantasies positions of Shanghaiist on matters of existential importance.
Don't get angry with us. Considering the fact that the average Chinese netizen demographic can be described thusly:
Males make up two-thirds of the Internet community, and more than 80 percent of users are under 24. Among people ages 25 to 29, 60 percent to 80 percent go online.
What'd you expect, after all?

Those little tiles may be ridiculous, but it's by no means a Chinese phenomenon. It's a concept called "pixel advertising", and there are already a horde of sites like this around the world.
The original pixel advertising site, The Million Dollar Homepage, is auctioning off its last 1000 pixels today -- bids currently up to US$140k on ebay.
Washington Post article
I think it's utterly ridiculous. Sure pple go to the million dollar homepage to gawk at the spectacle of this guy basically being given a million dollars, but does any surfer actually *click* on any of the thousands of tiny ads? The advertisers are idiots. The site owner was pretty damn smart though.
