I, a married man, received this email from a reader the other day:
I saw your bio on the Shanghaiist website – so I thought I would bother you for information.
I’m a 30ish professional gay man considering a two- to three-year transfer from NYC to Shanghai. I’ve found a bit of information on the gay scene, but nothing really in-depth. Is there any information source on-line you’d recommend? Any place you’d recommend checking out while I’m there? (I’m visiting in February – and moving in April if all proceeds.) Anyway, sorry for the unsolicited request.
Thanks for any help you might provide!
I can’t really blame him as this is the end of my bio:
His likes are western food, Louis Vuitton shoes and career-orientated men. He is looking to marry a foreign man, preferably German.
I had thought that everyone in China would get this as it seems to be a motto of some of the city’s female-folk, and seems to accompany the end of every single personal ad. I hadn’t really thought about the rest of the world.
Well I told Karl all I know, which is that there is one main gay bar called Home I believe. I had a friend here who was gay, and he said the scene here wasn’t really up to much. Can anyone else give Karl the info he needs?
