Shanghaiist hates to be the bearer of bad news, but that Valentine's Day plan day you had to watch Memoirs of a Geisha and then have kinky sex afterwards will now have to be canceled. Well, at least the movie part, because it looks like Mommy and Daddy aren't sure if Memoirs is suitable for you. According to this article (in Chinese), the movie got snagged up somewhere in the reviewing process because of potentially sensitive content. It was originally supposed to be screened during the Valentine's Day period, but it looks like you're going to have to get a DVD copy quick, and supposedly they're going like hotcakes. The Globe and Mail had this to say a couple of days ago:
At a time when Japan and China are increasingly bitter rivals, the title geisha character, Sayuri, and her rival, Hatsumomo, are played by major Chinese stars Ziyi Zhang and Gong Li -- both from China.
Boohoo. Cheer yourself up by checking out Zhang Ziyi's official website or this fan site for loads of pictures and meaningless adoration. We also found out what certain Americans thought of ZZY's appearance at the Golden Globes, where she was nominated for an award: "She looked wonderful," adds TV Guide comedienne Joan Rivers. "She's hard to communicate with, but she's very lovely, almost other-worldly." Shanghaiist has never been called "other-worldly" before, though we have been told to go to another "world" (i.e. hell) before, but that's kinda different.
Also on Shanghaiist:
Zhang Ziyi has sex with Japanese men!
Extra! Extra! Pet pythons, Geisha-gate and another village melee

Thanks for the Zhang Ziyi links Peijin. And as always -- I love Zhang Ziyi.
