I don't understnd how Ooi got the job as a creative director, she does not have an ounce of no creativity inside her, dressing in designer clothes does not equal being creative.

Shanghai Tang churns out ugly, kitsch looking things and their local designers get treated very badly. Savannah Miller was recently appointed to design a knitwear collection - why? because of her celebrity connections.

Shanghai Tang seems to fall into the "Asia Mystique" brand of marketing to the West-- do you know any Chinese who would wear clothes with Chinese characters printed on them? I don't.

They are way overpriced, who can afford these prices in China?

Good points Peijin, and fair criticisms.

A random green shirt with Chinese characters doesn't strike me as particularly unique, and the reference to xintiandi... yuck.

Well I see the writer has read 'Wild Swan's' and is one of those people who believe every Chinese aspect is due to Mao, and not to do with the thousand years before him in any way.
