Xinmin Evening News tells us (article in Chinese) that although a bowl of wonton usually costs several yuan, Mr. Shao paid over 3000 -- in fact 3103.18 RMB.
On the 18th of August 2005, Mr. Shao and his delightful family skipped along to Lucky Wonton, their local eatery, and ordered up two bowls of wonton. Mr. Shao was of the opinion that the bowls had a "weird smell", a gesticulatory argument ensued -- in Shanghai? You must be kidding -- and Mr. Shao promptly beat Mr. Ma, the owner of the restaurant. As you do.
Mr. Ma ended up paying 2571.1 yuan for his medical treatment, and attempted to sue Mr. Shao for 20,000 yuan at Jing'an court for these costs, as well as absence from work costs and "transportation fees". The court ruled that the fight had started as Mr. Shao "couldn't recognise the taste of the wonton", and a fight broke out. The court concluded that Mr. Shao should pay 60 percent of all costs (equalling over 3000 yuan), and Mr. Ma 40 percent. They then went outside and played in the sun for a while before going to buy each other ice cream*.
*This did not really happen. At least, not that we know of. They also may or may not have been wearing Jedi cloaks and using light-sabres. There was no photographic recording of the fight.
