I have a question: If I say "The Chinese government is a corrupt monster which robs from the peasants and the workers to give to its new American corporate lords," will the comment be censored?

I do remember some women waving at people in Shanghai, wearing casual clothes and with a whistle showing off their mouths. Nobody, and I say NOBODY, gave a damn about her waving nor whistling (except for me, and it was not out of my will to be obedient, but out of pure fear for my life).

I think the PRC government should feel a stronger urge to educate their people into respecting traffic laws. TV campaigns are visibly not enough, and Beijing 2008 is just around the corner.

I give the crossing guards the respect they deserve. Afterall, it takes guts to be out there in traffic all day in Shanghai AND deal with teh idiots that are constantly stepping in front of moving traffic with no concept of cars, buses and trucks... But wait, thats it really isnt it...many of the pedestrians have no concept of the dangers as they have never driven a car and have not been surrounded by them all their lives the way many of us have been. Sad state of affairs to be stuck in an ever developing environment liek Shanghai and not be able to catch up, and a bit frightening i suppose, for both the pedestrians AND the crossing guards.
