Forbes celebrity list time

libingbingshanghaichinaforbescelebrity.jpgIt's that time of year again: the Forbes annual China celebrity list is coming out on March 8. This article (in Chinese) tells us that the top 10 has already been released, and Li Bingbing (李冰冰) has graduated to the big time, garnering top honors. The Forbes list is calculated using a "income+media exposure" criterion, and while we aren't privy to how much Li makes, we know that she graced the covers of more magazines this year than any other celeb. The rankings include 100 people, with the top ranked as follows:

  • 李冰冰 (Li Bingbing)
  • 赵薇 (Zhao Wei)
  • 范冰冰 (Fan Bingbing)
  • 李宇春 (Li Yuchun)
  • 周迅 (Zhou Xun)
  • 高圆圆 (Gao Yuanyuan)
  • 章子怡 (Zhang Ziyi)
  • 黄圣依 (Huang Shengyi)
  • 徐静蕾 (Xu Jinglei)
  • 姚明 (Yao Ming)

This year they have three new categories -- celeb of the year (isn't that just #1?), newcomer of year, and a new celeb with most potential of the year. In case you actually give a shit, here's a link to the 2004 Feng Xiaogang movie in which Ms. Li starred, A World Without Thieves (天下無賊).

I dunno if it's just me, but Chinese celebrities always look freakishly alike, and this is coming from someone who's Chinese. It's like there's only a set number of beauty archetypes to cycle through or something. For example, 黄圣依 looks so much like 刘亦菲, except a bit uglier. And many a time I have not been able to tell the difference between 周迅 and 李小璐. It's weird. And it creeps me out when I see one celebrity and minutes later find out that it's someone else entirely!
