Yep, and even cheaper (around US$360) if you fly direct from Chicago. How is this possible? Well, American Airlines is launching service to Shanghai in April with some special fares. The good times run from April 2-30, so get your travel visas fast.

Thanks for the heads up. Called AA and they are not aware of this fare. The lowest they quoted me was $545 plus tax from Chicago to Shanghai. Perhaps this fare is only valid for travel from Shanghai to the U.S. and back?
Oh yeah, I just noticed. The story does say "from Shanghai." My bad.
AA.com doesn't seem to be aware of this deal, either. Cheapest I could find originating in Shanghai was US$990. It is a nonstop flight to Chicago, though.
I looked on the AA.com website and it's 739USD inclusive of all taxes. I think this is the cheapest fare you can get...but it's still the cheapest I've seen that's not from the west coast! I've already emailed my Chicago friends to come visit!
No worries Dan. Linda, you should really call AA for perhaps lower fares. They put me on hold while they spoke with their international fares department and I was quoted $545 plus airport taxes(which is the lowest I've seen anywhere)and service charge($15(?) per ticket if over the phone)for April. I usually book nonstop United flights from O'hare and they average about $650 roundtrip. Not sure about additional taxes though.
