Man carries 6-year-old corpse of 4-year-old up Beijing billboard

beijingchinacorpseepsonshanghaiiist.jpgEpson makes decent products and they have a nice slogan, "Exceed Your Vision". So imagine what the good people of Beijing are thinking when they see what appears to be a person hanging over a 30 meter high Epson billboard. A man had carried this "person" all the way up to the top of the billboard and threatened to commit suicide if he didn't get his wishes. And what did he want? Justice, of course. His daughter, the one that he carried up there, was killed in October 2000. She was four years old, they found her body in a well, and the coroners determined that she was murdered. The police found themselves a suspect, who was subsequently found guilty and given a death sentence, which was eventually commuted to ten years for destruction of property and three other criminal counts, none of which we gather included murdering a little girl. The girl's father, Li Gongjian, is from Henan and adopted this girl with his wife. Because he felt that justice had not been served, he declined have her body cremated and kept it in what we presume is a large freezer of some sort. A couple of days ago, he pulled this stunt in Beijing. Eventually, the negotiators got him to come down, and they retrieved the corpse a little bit later. The article and some pictures are here. Weird things happen all the time, nonetheless, we'd just hate to be the one at Epson who had to break news like this to the boss.
