'That's not the way to get ahead in life'

meat-cleaver.jpgUnfortunately, Shanghaiist was not quite through with lunch when we decided it was a good idea to read a South China Morning Post (subscription only, and therefore unlinkable) story entitled "Woman decapitated by husband". Of course a story like this is expected to be gruesome by any account. But, there are a few key words in this particular story that bump up the queasiness factor:

A man decapitated his wife with a meat cleaver yesterday morning, the latest in a string of family tragedies to strike Macau in less than two months.

The 36-year-old suspect was holding a bloodstained cleaver and wailing beside the body when police arrived at 7am.

The suspect allegedly hacked his 36-year-old wife at least 10 times when she was sleeping just after 6am.

The husband told police he had a bitter quarrel with his wife and had been unable to sleep. It is believed he had been suffering from work-related stress and had been highly agitated recently.

A meat cleaver and 10 hacks? Ick. We're still feeling a little queasy. Seriously, though, if you ever come after Shanghaiist wanting to decapitate us, please try and find something a little sharper and more efficient. We are strong believers in the "decapitation-in-one-go" school of thought.
