The latest on Mike Tyson's visit to Shanghai

Hide your women and children -- yes, we're talking to you, Lennox Lewis -- Mike Tyson is coming to town. We told you about this several days ago, and reports from elsewhere are now starting to trickle in. (It could be just that people don't care, but, for Shanghaiist, at least, Tyson was a childhood sports hero. We actually got teary eyed during his loss to Buster Douglas, and, in the years that followed, got suckered into paying decent money to watch many of the regrettable bouts during his decline ... always hoping that the Iron Mike of our youth would show his face again. We gave up that hope several years ago, and as a result don't watch much boxing anymore. But we are definitely more interested in Tyson's visit to Shanghai than, say, the Rolling Stones'.) Anyway, we have more info on Tyson's itinerary while in Shanghai to open the new night club called Minge Snatch:
Invited by one of his friends, Tyson will cut the ribbon for a new night club in Haixin Plaza next Thursday. Guests may also be treated with a live show starring Tyson after the ceremony.

Tyson will travel to Luodian Friday for a golf charity event. The Luodian government will be authorizing Tyson as an honorary resident.

Saturday, Tyson will hold a talk with abbot of the Jing’an Temple, a famous Buddhist temple and scenic site in Shanghai, before his departure.

That same story (translated from Chinese) concludes, matter-of-factly, with this:

[T]he former champion was also famous for his trouble in and out of the ring for much of his adult life. Tyson has served time for rape charges, biting Evander Holyfield’s ear, attempting to break an opponents arm and threatening to eat the children of former champion Lennox Lewis.

Funny, that info was not mentioned in the PR email sent to media. Here's what that said:

From Mar. 30th to Apr. 1st this year, Michael Tyson, the Ex-Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World will be residing in Shanghai, at his friend's request in order attend the Opening Ceremony of Snatch Bar & Nightclub, located on 3rd Floor 1 Ruijin Road South.

Snatch Bar & Nightclub characterizes the Afro-American music culture of today, with music such as R&B and Hip-Hop. During Tyson's stay in Shanghai, he will spend all three nights at the Snatch Bar & Nightclub, and enjoy the nightlife that the U.S. has introduced to the youth of Shanghai.

Away from the club, Tyson will visit some famous scenic sites within Shanghai, and carry out various public events aimed at transforming his own profile. Sunnybund Consulting (Shanghai) Co. Ltd., is honored to invite you as a media guest to attend this fabulous occasion as "Iron" Mike Tyson visits Shanghai for the first time.

Hmmmm ... "aimed at transforming his own profile"? Is that good PR work?

The first story we quoted said on Thursday night at the club opening, "[g]uests may also be treated with a live show starring Tyson after the ceremony." If it is anything like Tyson's "Monster Mash" duet with Bobby Brown on the Jimmy Kimmel Show last year (press play button above), we are all in for a treat.
