Week Around the Ists
Taggers, bombers, stencil artists, vinyl toy junkies and street artists around the country are heralding the arrival of Da>Space, Shanghai's first retail gallery and studio focusing on urban art.
The brainchild of designers Eddi Yip of adfunture and Jukai of Djebala, this must-see gallery will host exhibitions by iconic street artists such as The London Police, DOMA, Nanospores, WZL and others over the next 12 months. Their mission is to showcase the best of international urban art and foster the growth of China's own local scene.
Da>Space is hosting their first show "For The One, Who Is Supposed To See Me Someday," featuring Japanese artist Washio Tomoyuki (event flyer after the jump). The artist has been camping out in the gallery for the past week preparing whimsical site specific works for Shanghai.
The opening reception is Saturday, March 25, from 2pm - 5pm. The show ends April 22.
Da>Space is located at 84 Fujian Zhong Lu, on the corner of Guangdong Lu. Look for the black metal gate and proceed up the dark and greasy stairwell to the second floor. Paint markers provided.

I think staged indoor graffiti is kind of lame; takes away the whole mystique. Isn't street art better left on the streets?
i'd agree, but there is no street art scene in Shanghai yet. i'm hoping people will be inspired by what they see inside and take it out onto the streets. it has to start from somewhere.
also to clarify, da>space isn't about staged indoor graffiti, they have works on display by artists like Faile, D*Face, Andre, etc. Check out the place first before ya knock it.
