This is a couple weeks old, but we just learned of it today. Thank God we managed to refrain from SMSing porn this month:
China's new Law on Public Security Administrative Penalties [text in Chinese; press release] took effect Wednesday, creating 165 new offenses and setting maximum penalties ranging from 200 yuan ($25 US) to 15 days detention for Chinese citizens all the way to deportation for foreigners. The new offenses include repeatedly sending pornographic cellphone messages and disturbing public order at public events. This is the third revision of China's public security rules; originally issued in 1957, they were previously revised in 1986 and 1994. Chinese officials say the higher financial penalties reflect increases in Chinese personal income, 8.6 times higher today than that in 1986. The law was passed last August but not immediately implemented. China Daily has more. Shanghai Daily has background coverage.
Although the penalty was different, it appears some guy in Xi'an got busted for texting porn to colleagues earlier this month.
More old sex news: Police in Hangzhou arrested 10 prostitutes recently -- half of them were college students.

So the penalties are for "repeatedly sending pornographic cellphone messages." How many times is "repeatedly"?
I used to get SMS call girl solicitations all the time when I lived in Changchun, but in Shanghai I've not yet gotten one. I'm disappointed. :)
Recently in Xiamen I saw "Call Girl" cards advertising, among other types, college girls for hire. Scanned it too: http://blog.chineseoutpost.com/?p=60
If the cops want to crack down, they can just catch a cab to do their research--seems to be a popular place for dropping the cards.
