“When the lights go down in the city, and the sun shines on the bay …” While we pay tribute to the great 80s band Journey and our friends at SFist, Shanghaiist brings you this interesting tidbit, announced by Yang Xiong, Deputy Mayor of Shanghai, on Wednesday:
Shanghai would build a seaside new town with its area nearing 300 square kilometers and its population setting 800,000 on the bank of Hangzhou Bay 32 km away from the Yangshan Deep Water Port.
In related news, Starbucks Chairman, Howard Schultz was heard screaming, "Ka-ching! Ka-ching!" in a boardroom meeting after hearing the announcement.
For now, the town will be called “new town beside the port”. We sincerely hope this won’t be the final rendition, because “newtownbesidetheportist” just doesn’t sound like a very appealing name for our future sister site. Well, time is on our side, the new city is still in its preliminary planning stage, and an overall frame work won’t be finished until -- you guessed it -- 2010.
The picture sure looks nice right? Who’s itching to play some Simcity?
