We can’t say we are really excited about American electronics retailer Best Buy opening their first China store in Shanghai, but it does give us an excuse to publish a cool 3D Shanghai street map from edushi.com. Best Buy will reportedly occupy four floors (8,000 square meters) of the Jiang Shan Building, 1065 Zhaojiabang Lu, in Xujiahui. (Here is what that building looks like in an architect’s dreams.) Best Buy has announced no opening date, so don’t cancel your Hong Kong gadget run just yet. We do wonder how good of a buy Best Buy will be. (Will they have affordable Mac products? Or is that an oxymoron?) What do local electronics retailers think of their new rival? “Who cares?,” according to Shanghai Daily. The story in The Australian added this:
Home Depot, the home-improvement chain, is also reported to be planning an imminent move into China, while Gap, the clothing retailer, has also said it wanted to establish stores there.
