'Around the World in One Camera'

aroundtheworldinonecamera.jpg
Via our friends at LAist we learn of a Los Angeles-based photo blogger who actually followed through one of those crazy ideas usually hatched after several rounds at the local bar. Here is the idea in his own words:
The whole idea is to create a photo album from images taken by 36 people from around the world using the same “travelling” camera and a single roll of film. Every participant will receive the camera by mail along with a notebook. Using that camera the participant will take a photograph of anything he or she wants and will have to submit a short note, explaining his or her choice of what has been photographed. When it’s done, the camera will be sent to the next participant. The whole process will be repeated until the roll is done.

If you found it interesting and you’d like to be one of the album creators, let me know. If you found it interesting but you cannot or don’t want to be a part of it you can always follow the story in this blog. Every participant will automatically become an author of the blog.

Right now there are 17 registered participants from across the globe. One of them, Joey Gu, lives in Nanjing. We couldn't find anything on the site that prohibits two people from the same country participating.

The camera is a LOMO, and it is currently on its way to Canada.

This all kind of reminds us of the roaming gnome from Amelie. Kind of. Well, maybe it's not similar at all. But it is still a good movie.

We here at Shanghaiist applaud this effort and look forward to seeing the photos. Hopefully they don't suck -- each person only gets one shot.

Hey there, far away from here :-)

Thanks for spreading the word to the world. I can see more and more people visiting the project site.
Thanks for youe applaus and we don't worry if the pix sukc, we have some emergency prepared plus this is more about having fun and to bring people together and show there are no boundries between us!

Thanks agaian,
Wojtek (founder)

Sadly, the person from Nanjing stopped all hopes of a Shanghai participant:

"If you live in one of the countries listed below, please do not apply because I already have someone from there." China is already listed =(
