Shanghai's vice-mayor Zhou Yupeng, like all up-and-coming officials in China, was polishing his ability to spout meaningless drivel up in Beijing, this time on the topic of Shanghai versus Hong Kong. Seems that Hong Kong has long harbored anxieties about Shanghai taking its place in the sun, so Mr. Zhou decided to add his two fen worth, which you can read about here and here (both in Chinese).
Mr. Zhou recalls some of the creative metaphors officials used in the past: 香港和上海是一條大路上的兩盞明燈﹔之後前市長徐匡迪也說過﹐上海和香港是一支球隊的兩個前鋒 (roughly: 'Hong Kong and Shanghai are like two bright lights on the road' and 'Shanghai and Hong Kong are like two forwards on a sports team'). So next time people bring up this topic, just tell them: "Hey, think of this way: Shanghai and Hong Kong -- they're like Kevin McHale and Larry Bird." And everybody should know what you are talking about.
