South American Micro
Born in Venezuala, raised in Chile, based in Berlin and now appearing in Shanghai -- that is the acclaimed pop/rock producer turned DJ, Argenis Brito.
International purveyor of tacky trance DJ Tiesto may have been in town last weekend but Shanghaiist was there to witness Microfabrique pull in a decent crowd hungry for tunes not cheese, and this Friday Brito, who is one half of the live act Mambotur, aims to move the crowd with his unique style.
The multi-talented music maker and some-time vocalist will be playing "minimal summer sounds with a fusion of club rhythms and traditional Latin structures influenced from his home country" says Shanghai's Microfabrique crew, as they continue their mission to sharpen the Shanghai clubscene's hitherto blunt cutting edge.
Friday evening's event is not limited to the auditory realm -- French artist Kentin will be providing painted visuals as the night progresses.
Brito, a contemporary of imfamous minimal DJ Ricardo Villalobos, lines up on Friday night alongside the Micro's regular sonic troops Jackson Black, Shanghai native B6, and Frankfurter duo Tootekool.
Microfabrqiue is on Friday night at La Fabrique, 8-10 Jian Guo Zhong Lu, near Sinan Lu. 60 RMB entry includes one drink.
