Shanghaiist Happy Hour III: Featuring Mint and Ferris Wheel

ferriswheelshanghai.jpgOne week from now you should be busy coating your stomachs with milk, getting ready for the 100-kuai-all-you-can-drink special at Shanghaiist Happy Hour III at Shuffle Bar. We have settled on the bands for the evening of Friday, April 21, as well. Kicking things off at around 10 will be local indie-pop outfit Ferris Wheel, followed by blues rockers Mint.

We asked a local music insider for the scoop on the two bands. Here's what we got:

Ferris Wheel, a group of students formerly known as Siyou Xinren, have been playing together for four years -- an eternity in the local rock scene. Their influences are bands like Coldplay and Oasis and they used to play a lot of covers. They were one of those reliable standby bands, always opening for someone else. Recently they've been expanding their range and writing their own songs. People seem to enjoy their shows, not only because of the music, but because they look like four nerdy kids having a great time on stage.

Mint is headed by Tim Kao, a Chinese-American guy who also teaches math. The band members are all experienced, mature musicians. They play all original stuff. They're usually labeled blues rock, but their style ranges from Americana to funk, with influences as diverse as Neil Young and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But they don't like to be pinned down. They'll throw in some surprises.

Expect some band interviews next week.

Remember, party starts at 7 pm. Get your money's worth. Shouldn't be difficult.
