Poor little Shanghai gets no attention

timeasiashanghai.gifMaybe it's just us, but it often seems like every single publication in every single country has story about Shanghai nearly every single day. OK, that could be a mild exaggeration caused by the fact that we read a little more about Shanghai that the average sane person. (We just got three Shanghai stories emailed to us by our mom yesterday -- does this happen to anyone else?) Regardless, we don't feel that our fair city is lacking in the international attention department. That is why we found this story kind of strange:

The local government and media were urged to provide more timely and accurate information about Shanghai to people around the world.

"The key issue is to further promote the city and increase the city's international awareness and influence," Yin Yicui, deputy secretary of the Shanghai Committee of the Communist Party of China, told an annual conference on mass media for an international audience yesterday.

It's almost as if they don't read Shanghaiist.
