OK, last month we learned about a Dalian factory that turns corpses into art, or at least what some people might consider art. And now the curious have their chance to see, and touch, the real thing (well, it might be the real thing — some people think the “corpses” are fake). The upcoming “Corpse Exhibition” is going to open in Shanghai on April 28 after touring many major cities in China including Beijing, Guangzhou, Changsha and Shenyang.
The Shanghai Morning Post reports (in Chinese) that this exhibition is going to display 21 plasticized bodies put in various poses that dead bodies don’t usually try. The bodies were reportedly filled with materials that replaced bodily fluids and fat, making the bodies durable for exhibition and study.
Lei Lei from Chinese Association of Natural Science Museums said, “there are 10 bodies in this exhibition going to be exposed to the public for the first time.”
The “Corpse Exhibition” has sparked some controversy in China. Shanghaiist thinks the corpses look disturbing sometimes, and a little scary, but we will for sure go and check this out. And of course we won’t steal testicles or any other body parts. That would just be wrong.
Exhibition: Real Body-Mystery and Health will be showing at Shanghai Worker’s Cultural Palace from April 28 until May 14. 120 Xizang Zhong Lu, tel: 6322 6155. 上海市工人文化宫,西藏中路120号. Tickets: RMB 60.
