A big 恭喜 (gongxi) out to two of China's world record holders

120womanoldestchinasichuanshanghai.jpgTwo Guinness world record holders in China have both made the news recently -- the world's oldest living person, a Leshan (Sichuan) woman dubbed in this article as a "happy vegetarian" -- has just turned 120 years old. Du Pinhua was born on April 22, 1886, and has been the oldest person in the world since 2002. This Chinese report has a picture and also a bit more information about her lifestyle and beliefs. Turns out she's Buddhist, either largely or completely a vegetarian (and has been most of her life), and hardly ever gets angry. Not surprisingly, she doesn't smoke, drink, or go to all night raves either.

The other record holder is Man Niu, whom you might not have heard of, unless you like keeping au courant on giant mossback turtles, and at 55 kilograms, a veritable linebacker of a turtle at that. According to the report:

After months of online matchmaking, a suitable bride, also a mossback turtle, was found for Man Niu, China Daily reported Thursday.

The wedding ceremony, attended by a number of locals, took place Monday in the city park where Man Niu is kept.

Online matchmaking? For turtles?
