Extra! Extra! Dead chickens, fake scientists, M:I:3?

  • After tea served in restaurants, the latest health warning is about ReNu contact lens solution, which is being taken off the shelves in China.
  • If it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down: Conserve residential water.
  • No mercy shown for under-performing enterprises: If your firm isn't doing well enough, you'll be kicked out on your ass to make way for that holy grail, 'development'.
  • Fang Zhouzhi continues his quest to expose the fraudsters. He has exposed, among others: Yang Jingan of Hefei Industry University, who was expelled from the communist party after Fang disclosed plagiarized essays from foreign academic journals; Liu Hui, dean of the Medical School of Tsinghua University, who was dismissed after Fang found that Liu falsely claimed to have been director of medical research at New York University; and Yang Jie, dean of biology at Tongji University in Shanghai, who was dismissed after admitting to having a falsified résumé.
  • More fakes, more piracy in China.
  • As 120 Shanghainese tourists (that many?) have signed up for the Shanghai --> Lhasa train tour, good old Wang Yanlin is warning of the possible pitfalls of unprecedented pressure placed on the environment.
  • Misinformation, hearsay and rumour are alive and well -- we're still not sure what the deal is on Mission: Impossible 3 (we're tired of writing M:i:3 ... even though we just did then) being blocked or not, or the reasons for it. From Taipei Times: "The international distributor for the Tom Cruise action thriller Mission: Impossible III yesterday disputed media speculation that the movie may be banned in China because it casts Shanghai in a negative light. Chinese censors watched the film on Friday and are due to issue a formal opinion on the movie this week, said a manager overseeing United International Pictures' China operations. The manager would only identify himself by his surname, Chen. "These reports about how the movie is being blocked and so on, it's all fake news," Chen said.

  • And in today's just plain sick/revolting/stomach-churning news, dead chickens are roasted and sold to restaurants. And you thought KFC was bad ...
