... take his word. Jarrett Wrisley, who wrote for Shanghaiist for about 20 minutes last summer, has highlighted tomorrow's event in his "New & Noted" column in SH:
Haven’t been to the City Diner yet? You might want to check out their happy hour, being thrown by Shanghaiist.com, the city blog run by Dan Washburn and his team of Shanghai spectators. Head to City Diner on May 20 from 11am-2pm and, for ¥100, enjoy their awesome corned beef hash and other selected breakfasts with a free flow of bloody marys, mimosas or coffee. It’s a hell of a deal at Shanghai’s best new spot for breakfast. City Diner, 2/F, 142 Tongren Lu, near Nanjing Xi Lu, 6289 3699.

Did Jarrett sell out, boys?
who knows, we do tend to have that effect on people.
either that or the Hash browns spoke to brother Jarrett.
Place fall apart when it gets buy. Needs to work out what a true diner is. A place where you get your food in 20 mins not after 50 mins wait
well, you can be sure that when i start working there that you're going to get your food on time. and i know the difference between mimosas and bloody marys, omelettes and city breakfasts. if you want a real diner experience, i'll even work on hiring some fat and disgruntled people to pour your coffee.
I personally liked the place. I thought the service was great. My food came out very quickly and the portions were extremely large (maybe too large). My problem was the drinks did not contain enough alcohol. I doubt the Blood Mary's even had a 1/3 of a shot.
Great times yesterday at the City Diner. I was impressed by the food and service. When I asked for 10 mimosas, the arrived quickly. When I requested two pitchers of beer, soon enough, they were there, and soon thereafter, they were gone. True, it doesn't exactly resemble a Waffle House, but it does have some great things going for it,and lots of natural light, which I am always a big fan of. But I have to say the Bloody Mary's were awful. It tasted like there was appple or strawberry juice in the drink. But overall, no serious complaints. we were even served complimentary deserts, which included cheesecake, carrot cake, and chocolate cake, and they were all yummy. So overall I left full, drunk, and happy, and it was a afternoon well spent. I will be back there soon
Pity about the venue, as it is such a turn-off for people in search of healthy choices. Perhaps next time a place that will appeal to more people than just the Americans? That would be great :)
Yes, it's too bad about the venue. I heard they were going to have it at one of the Paulaner's, but were worried only Germans would show up. And then they thought about La Siene, but figured only French people would show up. Oh wait--that doesn't make sense and it sounds stupid, doesn't it? Weird. Also, last time I checked, corned beef hash was pretty Irish. And I always think of poached eggs as more of a British thing. So maybe you should have said it would appeal to people "who are either from the UK or from a country that broke away from what is now known as the UK." Oh wait--that still sounds stupid. Good comment, though, hdp.
