A commenter at another Shanghai forum wondered why we didn’t post much on Shanghaiist over the weekend. The easy answer is: Because it was the weekend. But this weekend was busier than most (for us, at least). Before the Happy Hour was the Roller Revival — lots of fun … great venue … great music … great costumes — which we managed to escape with all bones in tact. Unfortunately, that is not something all of the party goers can say. There was at least one broken wrist, which shouldn’t really come as a surprise since it was an open bar and most of the crowd had wheels on their feet. (Here are some photos.)
And finally, yesterday was the Second Chance Animal Aid party at Senses Wine Lounge, one of the few places in Shanghai where middle-aged Chinese women don’t run away in fear from cute little puppies. If you happen to see Mat Ryan, owner of Senses, give him a pat on the back: He and Shanghaiist chased for several blocks, in the year’s first real taste of Shanghai summer heat, an annoyingly fast dog (with only three good paws) who escaped from the bar’s backyard. We eventually cornered her on the grounds of what may or may not have been a school of some sort. She didn’t go down without a fight, however. After she squeezed though Shanghaiist’s hands, Mat trapped the dog against a wall — and he has the scars to prove it. One of the dog’s good paws drew blood from a couple loactations on Mat’s face. And then the dog thanked Shanghaiist by shitting all over our shorts. Good times. (The dog, named Cindy, is available for adoption, we think. If you are thinking about adopting her, buy a leash.)
So, that explains our lack of computer time over the weekend. What will explain our lack of computer time this week is our lack of a computer. We have managed to go through our second iBook in less than a month. We don’t really feel like discussing it, but if you Google “iBook” + “logic board” you’ll get a pretty good idea of what we are dealing with.
