Excessive drinking leads to facial paralysis

smileparalysischina.jpgAll y'all crazy football fans out there must have heard that from certain (and as of yet undisclosed) bars in the city, you can get a free ride home from Dazhong Taxis (someone else is paying, so it's free for you) if you're drunk -- this to prevent traffic accidents from people who drink and drive. The scheme is called "Send Me Home", but again, we don't know which bars the offer is valid for. Maybe it's just the bars that people get really drunk at. Hope that clears things up.

In a Reuters article entitled "China Fans in Danger of Losing Face", we read this:

"Staying up late while excited or agitated could weaken facial nerves and immunity, making one susceptible to paralysis," the China Daily quoted Sun Liangui, dean of the Beijing Yijiyuan Facial Neurology Institute, as saying.

"Drinking too much alcohol can also reduce facial immunity."

He said the institute had seen a 20 percent rise in the number of facial paralysis patients since the tournament began.

Think about it: You can't smile, you can't frown, might have problems taking a hit on a joint. Are you one of those people who gives out-of-this world-blowjobs? Well not anymore you ain't! It's not worth it -- drink responsibly, and leave the reckless driving to the taxi drivers.

What is it about facial paralysis and China? Seriously. Something genetic? Something environmental? I know a young lady who "caught" it, permanently. But I've never known anyone in the west to have it, except people who've had strokes.
