We first found about the Sandwich Express on Smart Shanghai and decided, after reading their review, to give it a try. We ordered a sandwich with the stuff we like: pesto, eggplant, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes. It wasn't half bad, but we're not sure we would agree with SS's conclusion: "their manager 'promised with her tongue' that their sandwiches are among the best available in town, so naturally we had to see for ourselves, and pleasingly, she was spot on." We haven't exactly had a representative sample of sandwiches in Shanghai, and years and upon years of peanut butter and jelly from Mom has created a palate only nominally more refined than that of a caveman, but it was undoubtedly a decent sandwich -- or was it just a case of pesto working its magic?
There is some information that we'd like to add that is not covered in the SS review -- their address is on Beijing Lu near Xikang Lu (see below) and during the World Cup, they are open 24 hours a day, whereas normally they are open from 9 am-12 am. Furthermore, during the World Cup, if you guess the correct score for a game (you must make your call before the second half of the game) your meal is free. They will either bring you the money afterwards or else give you the credit off your next meal. Speaking of bringing money back -- they gave us the wrong change and we didn't realize it until after the delivery person left, but they brought us the 6 RMB they owed us without complaint. Owing to the fact that we live very close to their store, it was quick -- can't say what might have happened if we had lived farther away. Their service is very good -- Shanghaiist would even go as far as to say that we were taken aback by how friendly they were. Oh and we forgot to mention: They deliver for free -- but mostly within Puxi, and not in Pudong.

Cool suggestion--will check it out tonight. The menu looked strangely familar but I couldn't place it--until I realized that more than HALF of the sandwiches are taken almost WORD FOR WORD from Wagas' menu! I love Shanghai...
Either get the curry chicken or the roasted vegetable, on either ciabatta or wrap. The chicken pesto is nice as well. I also found their service to be very polite. I always use their SMS service and they never screw it up.
This place is great - I believe it's from kitchen of Pasti. I don't care if they hijacked Wagas' menu, at least they don't charge Wagas prices. Sandwich Express offers a combo deal that's unbeatable: 1 sandwich, 1 salad (Caesar or Tuna w/ greens) and one fresh squeezed (really) juice - Orange, Apple, Carrot, or Punch (mixed). Price is 52 or 58 RMB but you save 10% if you fax or SMS.
I have ordered at least 6 or 7 times - always fine, and the delivery guy is pleasant. The Traditional Chicken, in a wrap, is probably my favorite, good use of mustard. The Pesto or Curry Chicken are also good. If you get the Ciabatta, I suggest toasted. I have always ordered by fax - but they need to redesign their fax menu for multiple sandwiches in one order. The Salami was a bit light on meat. My friend said the Beef Fillet was good in a wrap. Give this place a try...
Cool news! The menu looks decent though I really want a nice roast beef or roast turkey sandwich, but the available delivery sounds good for sure. Good find!
Overpriced. For the prices they charge it better be damn good with free delivery. You get these prices in Firenze for real sandwiches.
Yet another "foreigners" service. There are far better sandwiches, huge ones at that, that cost almost half. They also have take away.
Hey, we ve updated new menus, coming up soon here.
And we did try to improve all to satisfy all criticals, if I can of course.
PM me if any suggestions
Sorry guys but are you all newbies in Shanghai?
How abt those delicious 10" tuna, real curry chicken or roasted beef with moustard of dijon sandwiches in XuJiaHui Grand Gateway.
They charge you 20RMB with free delivery and 33cl Coke, Fanta, Sprite or water.
You can see the cooks prepare it before your own eyes (even the mayonnaise) and vegetables are the best quality I have ever seen down-town. Tomatoes are imported from Italy and the cook is french.
